A simple and cozy blend of fruit and spices to fill your home with a warm and inviting aroma of a cozy simmer pot all year long!
A cozy simmer pot of natural ingredients could not be easier to make in less than 10 minutes! Throw together any combination of citrus and spice blend that you would like into a pot and top with water. Simmer on the stove top all day long and refill as needed. Then let the warm and inviting scents fill your home!
My simmer pot go to combination consists of oranges, cranberries, cinnamon sticks and when I have them a few sprigs of rosemary. At times I use the just the scrapes of the orange peel such as when I am making dried orange slices or making a snack for the kids. Regardless, of how many oranges or cranberries or cinnamon I have the simmer pot smells wonderful and makes the kitchen so cozy and inviting. It's the simple magic of a handful of ordinary ingredients turned into something special.
This season of life between the holidays and the new year can be both calm and chaotic all at once. It's the push and pull of hanging on to the holiday season and the anticipation of a new beginning with the start of the new year. Reflection and reminisce is at it's peak now and in an attempt to embrace both, I like to keep the home natural and warm for winter. A cozy simmer pot quietly bubbling away on the stove top is such an easy and perfect way to accomplish this with little effort and time.
Cozy Tips and Blends for Simmer Pots
- Use enough fruit and spices to fill whatever size pot you have.
- Refill the water through the day as needed.
- You can use fresh fruit and herbs or even scraps or slightly "gone" fruit and herbs.
- Place a few of these ingredients into a mason jar and tie with string to use for later or give as a small gift to friends or family during the winter season!
- You can substitute almost any fruit and spices.

- For even more sweetness, add a splash of vanilla or almond extract to the blend.
- For a sweeter scent, use more cranberries.

The Cozy Details
Step 1: Gather your ingredients for your simmer pot blend. Slice up the fruit into halves, quarters, or slices.
Step 2: Place the fruit and cinnamon sticks and rosemary if using into a pot. Any large enough pot will do. I prefer to use a copper pot to maintain consistent low heat, such as this one.
Step 3: Add water to cover the fruit and spices.
Step 4: Place on the stove top uncovered on medium high for a few minutes to begin a boil. Once it has reached a quick boil, turn the heat down to low. Refill the water as necessary. The simmer pot will last with water for about a week.
It's the simple moments and aromas in life that are the most comforting and a simmer pot is both calming and cozy.
